Jasper Levi ‘Kaagbeshkong’ ‘Duck’ John of the Fish Clan and a member of Walpole Island First Nation, died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the age of 90. Jasper was the last surviving member of the Warrior Society, Guardians of Tecumseh’s remains that guarded his original grave from 1813 until he was moved in 1941.
Jasper was also a former Walpole Island Fire Chief, duck hunting guide and stone mason/concrete finisher.
Son of the late Levi & Velva (Williams) John. Beloved husband of Eliza Ann (Blackbird). Loving father of Adam W. John (Bonnie Greenbird)(Connie John) and the late Jay Levi John and Bruce L. John (Vicky Smith). Dear grandfather of Bruce Colin John, Ivan W. John (Angel Gordon), Ryan E. John and great grandfather to Marcel and Deacon. Brother of Russell John, Joseph John and the late Pauline John.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the family home 110 Nahdee Lane on Wednesday and then at the Walpole Island Sport Complex on Thursday. The funeral will be celebrated at the Sports Complex on Friday, February 26 at 11 AM.
