A power outage on Thursday morning affected over 1,200 Hydro One customers in Wallaceburg and Walpole Island.

The outage also took on a toll on some businesses in the area.

Melissa Gaylard, owner of the Clubhouse at Baldoon on Dufferin Avenue, said the power went out around 9:30 a.m. and didn’t come back on until shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, Gaylard will lose a day of business due to the outage.

“By the time we get up and running, it will be too late,” she said.

The Walpole Island Health Centre was closed today due to the outage as well.

Tiziana Baccega Rosa, a spokesperson for Hydro One, told the Sydenham Current specific details about the incident were not immediately available.

She said the Hydro One officials were swamped with calls all across Ontario, as various weather-related outages were affecting upwards to 25,000 customers across the province.

“It is very busy for us today,” she said.

Baccega Rosa said the majority of the issues were felt in the eastern part of Ontario.

Details about the local incident were expected to be known by Friday, Baccega Rosa said.
