A Wallaceburg singer/actor will be gracing the stage this weekend and next, as the Ridge Players presents a musical performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Alyssa Doherty, who now lives in Chatham, will be playing the role of Belle.

“I’m super excited, it’s going to be great,” the 18-year-old performer told the Sydenham Current.

Doherty said the performance follows the same storyline as the iconic animated Disney film.

The group started rehearsing just after Christmas.

“It’s amazing as always working with the Ridge Players group,” Doherty said.

“I first worked with them when when I was in Grade 8, when I did ‘Annie’ with them. They are an amazing family. I was in ‘Shrek’ with them as well and every time I’ve done a production with this company they’re just the sweetest people and always so welcoming, always so warm. They’re basically family.”

The performances will be held at the following times on the Ridgetown High School stage:

– Friday, February 26 at 8 p.m.

– Saturday, February 27 at 8 p.m.

– Sunday, February 28 at 2 p.m.

– Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m.

– Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m.

– Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

Doors open 30 minutes before the show.

After graduating from Grade 12 last year, Doherty is currently finishing an extra year at UCC in Chatham. She plans on studying music in the fall after high school.

She also has her own business started called Personal Princess Parties, where she will perform at children’s birthday parties in character as various Disney princesses.
