“Feels great to be a part of an organization in my hometown,” Kanally told the Sydenham Current. “I am looking forward to recruiting and retaining players and putting a competitive team on the ice.”

Kanally said his first order of business with the Lakers is recruitment.

“Recruit players for our camp April 15 and 17,” he said. “All players born 1995 to 2000 who are interested should visit the Wallaceburg Lakers Facebook page for details.

The tryout camp is intended for any interested players and all returning players:

– Friday, April 15 – 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

– Sunday, April 17 – 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Both days of camp will be held at the Blenheim Arena.

Cost for both days is $50 per player, payable before going on the ice. Permission to skate forms from the players’ home hockey centre must be filled out and brought as well.

Anyone interested in taking part, including returning players, can fill out the player recruitment form, by clicking here.

The Lakers also selected Bob Price as their new head scout.

“Both Ritch and Bob will be working hard with the coaching staff of Derek Ellis, Ryan Paxton and Steve Gagner in the offseason to look for players to come out to spring camps as well as the main camps that will be coming up,” the Laker’s posted on their website on Friday.

The Lakers have struggled in recent years, missing the playoffs for five consecutive seasons.

Wallaceburg finished last in the league in 2015/2016, finishing with a 3-37-0 record.
