From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
I am not sure who said this about kindness, but I like it.
“Kindness is just love with work boots on.”
Yes, indeed, kindness is love in action.
I was out at a nursing home one blustery, fall day and saw a man fighting the wind to push his wife around outside in a wheelchair.
The woman was bundled up quite adequately against the elements and was just glad to be outdoors and away from the mundane routine of sitting in her wheelchair in her room.
Perhaps she had to coax her husband to go to the bother of getting her all prepared for what would likely be a very short outing in the fresh air.
Nevertheless, the kindness of this man to his wife likely made her day.
What is true for actions can also be true for words.
Mother Theresa once said, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
We can sometimes be tempted to leave off a kind word to someone, excusing it as insignificant and frivolous, but that would be a mistake.
A warm “thank-you” or “good job” can be the difference between an hourly, minimum wage employee just going through the motions and working with a spring in their step.
Is there someone who needs some kindness today in your world?
Go ahead and say that thoughtful word or do that little bit extra for them.
You could make a world of difference for them by your kindness!
