Everyone is invited to the celebration of Chatham-Kent’s Feature Act and discussion on Chatham-Kent’s community safety and well-being, the first TV show of the CK Community Development Forum for this calendar year.

This televised show will be held Monday, April 11, 6:00 p.m., followed by a regular Council Meeting in the Municipal Council Chambers, Civic Centre, 315 King Street West, Chatham.

This event is free of charge.

On April 11, the citizen volunteers of the Shrewsbury and Raglan Assembly, whose efforts have supported the revitalization of the Shrewsbury Community Centre as well as new outdoor playground equipment for children, will be showcased through the Feature Act Recognition Program.

Feature Act is a recognition program of the CK Community Leaders’ Cabinet in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce, and the Wallaceburg & District Chamber of Commerce.

The Feature Act program showcases projects of Chatham-Kent that enhance the quality of life for business and citizens.

Chris McLeod, Morning Show Host, CK Mornings, 94.3 CKSY. with Chief Gary Conn, Chatham-Kent Police Services will be leading the discussion on Chatham-Kent’s Community Safety and Well-being.

“I am excited to lead this discussion,” said show host Chris McLeod, “Chatham-Kent is recognizing and embracing the opportunities to be innovative and proactive in CK’s overall community stability. There is a strong willingness among leaders to work together to improve public safety.”.

“This forum focuses on how CK is responding to tackling today’s toughest social issues,” said Gary Conn, police chief, Chatham-Kent Police Services. “We will be highlighting some of the trends in community policing, some of the demonstrated successful community partnerships here in CK, as well as, some new technology that CK Police Services is launching.”

As well, four additional stories of safety and well-being will be shared throughout the show.

Chantal Perry, Supervisor Homelessness Prevention, Employment and Social Services for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will speak about how adequate housing and support services are vital to community stability and wellness. Learn about proactive community building responses that are helping to stabilize and strengthen Chatham-Kent.

Constable Brent Milne, Chatham-Kent Police Services’ HELP Team member and Mobile Crisis Team Officer, and Dan Saunders, one of two Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Psychiatric Assessment Nurses on the Mobile Crisis Team will discuss how the HELP and Mobile Crisis Teams enhance the Chatham-Kent Police Services’ interactions with individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

Karen Bondy and Bill McGuire, Volunteer Co-chairs, Chatham Central Community Association will speak about bringing neighbours together and community partners to strengthen and support our neighbourhood.

Marjorie Crew, Coordinator CK Community Safety and Well-being Plan, will share information about the FIRST strategy. This strategy is a formal coordinated risk-intervention process that will bring the right services at the right time to individual and families experiencing circumstances that could become critical in their life.

Looking ahead in 2016, the forum series will continue on:

• June 13 with a discussion about the CK Plan 2035

• October 17 with a discussion on CK Emergency Management and Preparedness

The forums are designed to be controversial and engaging, help CK talk about CK, communicate CK’s priorities, engage citizens on key issues that impact quality of life for everyone, and support Council in making strategic decisions to shape the future of Chatham-Kent.
