The dog park in Wallaceburg is closed due to the threat of flooding.

The closure is set to remain in effect until further notice.

“Due to dangerous flooding, we will be closing the park until further notice. We can not be held responsible or liable for those whom choose to ignore this closure,” the Happy Tails Wallaceburg Off-Leash Dog Park committee posted on their website.

Large pools of water could be spotted inside the park and the gate is locked as well.

The Sydenham River beside the park is also sitting very high.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a flood watch on Monday for the river running through Wallaceburg and Dresden.

Steve Clark, water resources specialist with the SCRCA, said over 50mm of precipitation was received across the area in a 48 hour span leading up to the start if the week, and an additional 30mm received Sunday night and early Monday.

“Extensive localized flooding has continued to expand into low lying areas overnight, mostly into agricultural, parkland and floodplain areas,” Clark said in a statement.

“Water levels in all areas of the watershed are expected to remain extremely high especially in the lower reaches of the watershed near Dresden and Wallaceburg where levels have continued to rise significantly.”

We’ll provide more information when it becomes available.
