Working as a team really works – just ask Ila Little

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

As an avid basketball fan, I have been watching the headlines all season long about Kobe Bryant’s last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nobody seems to be mentioning the great Laker TEAMS, only their star player, Kobe Bryant.

To be sure, Bryant is a key reason for all those Lakers’ championships, but the last time I checked, basketball was a team sport.

Kobe Bryant was not known for passing the ball very much.

I like what Andrew Carnegie once said about the importance of the team. “No man” said Carnegie, “will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.”

Yep!

Ila Little is a wonderful, caring lady in our community who understands the concept of teamwork.

For the past three years she has endeavoured to provide a gift for every person living in a long-term care facility in our community. (Check out this story about it!)

She saves up money throughout the year and then purchases small gifts to distribute.

She has a team of helpers who assist her to get everything ready and then make the rounds blessing those in need.

She embodies Andrew Carnegie’s advice perfectly, as she knows she can’t do it all herself, nor does she want any credit for doing it.

Jesus modeled such leadership during His earthly ministry, and we would do well to imitate His supreme example.

When you are part of a team you realize that you need the help of those other players and those other players also need you.

More can be accomplished from a team working together than from the sum of their parts.

If you’re longing to be recognized for your accomplishments then you will never work well on a team.

Your goals cannot be reached with such self-service.

Work as a team and share the credit with others.

It really works – just ask Ila Little.
