Wallaceburg Lakers Peewee girls capture provincial silver

Another banner is making its way to Wallaceburg Memorial Arena, as the Wallaceburg Lakers Scotiabank Peewee girls team captured silver medals at the Ontario Women’s Hockey Provincials held this past weekend in Toronto.

The girls were 2-0 after the first day of round robin games on Friday.

They defeated Nepean 3-0 Friday morning and then beat Wilmot 7-0 later that night.

On Saturday, the Wallaceburg girls beat Walkerton 7-0 to advance them to the quarter finals. Later that night the girls beat Nepean 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

In a thrilling semi-final match, Wallaceburg topped Timmins 2-1 in triple OT.

The championship game has the girls up against a team from Chatsworth (near Owen Sound.)

In the end, it was Chatsworth coming out on top 2-0.

The Wallaceburg club had an exceptional year, winning their local playoff championship title.

The Lakers topped B.A.D. in two straight games in the best-of-three series to bring home a WOGHL banner.

The girls went 6-0 in their playdowns to qualify for the provincial tournament.
