Grenade found on Chatham property

The Department of National Defence was called in after a grenade was found in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on Saturday April 16, at approximately 9:50 am, officers were called to a McNaughton Ave East residence in regards to found unexploded ordinance.

Police immediately secured the scene and were advised by the homeowner that he located a grenade while doing some cleaning on his property.

The Department of National Defence (DND) was called and attended to remove the explosive.

It was later found to have the firing pin removed.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service reminds citizens that in the unlikely event they should find explosives, not to touch or move them and call police immediately.
