The all-clear has been given after a chemical leak near Corunna.

Lambton OPP said on Wednesday April 27th, 2016 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization (CVECO) activated its safety sirens in Sarnia’s industrial corridor indicating a potential emergency.

The Ontario Provincial Police was requested to shut down all traffic flow at St. Clair Parkway and Beckwith Street, Corunna and at St. Clair Parkway and LaSalle Line, Corunna.

Lambton OPP was informed of a benzene leak from one of the industrial plants in the area and emergency crews were activated to contain the leak.

The general public in that area was requested to follow these recommended guide lines:

– Stay inside

– Close all windows and secure doors (locking provides a tighter seal).

– Turn off all ventilation systems such as heating or air conditioning.

– If there are gaps in windows or doors, seal with tape or damp towels.

– Have an battery operated radio for emergencies and tune to local radio stations for more information

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. the all clear was given and roadways were reopened. The Ministry of Environment was notified and will be investigating the matter.

The Sarnia Police Service said earlier this evening that the incident took place at Shell.
