A Chatham-Kent resident was recognized by the Chatham-Kent Police Service for her courageous assistance at the scene of an accident.

On Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 6:44 p.m. a 911 call was received from Tina Wall, who stated that she had just witnessed an accident on Talbot Trail near Coatsworth Road.

Tina was understandably shaken by what she had witnessed and it was obvious by the tone of her voice that she was experiencing a great deal of stress.

Tina stayed on the phone with the call taker from Police and later with the call taker from EMS for a total of 14 minutes and 22 seconds.

Tina managed to assist Police in finding the exact location of the motor vehicle collision, by driving her vehicle to the nearest 911 address and promptly returning to the scene to render assistance.

She described what she witnessed in detail and searched the area for any other occupants.

Tina provided EMS with critical information, relating to the lone occupant’s medical condition and reassured the victim that emergency personnel were on their way.

Throughout the entire incident, Tina remained calm and was able to take direction from the emergency call takers to relay vital information to the first responders.

Unfortunately, the lone occupant of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the scene, however the courageous actions taken by Tina, are indicative of the extraordinary efforts put forth in trying to save his life.

Last week at the CKPS Police Service’s Board meeting, Chief Gary Conn presented Tina with a Chief’s Commendation.

Chief Conn added, “Tina is to be commended for her calm and composed disposition during this critical incident and for providing care and compassion to the occupant of the motor vehicle. Tina’s actions facilitated the efficient performance of our collective emergency response to this incident.”
