Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man after a stolen vehicle took off on officers during a traffic stop in Wallaceburg.

Police officials say yesterday morning around 9:10 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a stolen motor vehicle from Sarnia with improper plates leaving a residence on King Street in Wallaceburg.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on Duke Street, however before the officer exited his cruiser, the man drove away.

The man drove to a residence on John Park Line and fled on foot.

Officers were allowed entry into the residence by the homeowner and the man was located.

Upon being arrested, the man provided the officer with a false name, however through previous incidents with police, his true identity was quickly determined.

The 28-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with using plates not authorized for vehicle, flight from peace officer, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, obstruct peace officer, seven counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of failing to comply with release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
