Emergency crews rushed to the Murray Street Bridge in Wallaceburg on Sunday evening, concerned that someone has jumped into the Sydenham River.
However, through investigation the Chatham-Kent Police Service determined this was not the case.
Officers “attended the area last night in regards to a splash,” Const. Renee Cowell, public information officer for the Chatham-Kent Police Service, told the Sydenham Current.
“No one was located in the water or actually observed anyone jumping in the water.”
Cowell said police believe someone simply threw something into the river.
Witnesses say emergency crews attended the scene just after 11 p.m. on Sunday.
The Sydenham Current received multiple texts, social media messages and e-mails from people expressing their concern about the situation.
