As the World says good-bye to Mr. Hockey, I would like to share a very special personal memory.
I will never forget the day Gordie joined my folks for lunch to help them celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. My Dad was a nervous wreck, meeting his idol in person, but Gordie was so kind and immediately put everyone at ease. It was a great day and a special memory that I will always cherish.
My Dad, Don Mitchelmore, was the same age as Gordie and played hockey against him in Saskatoon when they were 12 years old.
I trust these good old “Saskatoon” boys are now reunited and enjoying a cold one together!
