A fire on Tuesday evening outside of Wallaceburg has been deemed suspicious.

Chatham-Kent police officials say shortly after 8:30 p.m. last night, emergency crews responded to an abandoned house fully engulfed by fire on Corktown Line.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Mike Stokes at michaels@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #85016.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Ric Scharf, assistant fire chief, said approximately $5,000 damage was caused to the abandoned farm house.

“Old farm house has been abandoned for 10 years,” Scharf said.

There were no utilities to structure, the fire was fully involved upon arrival, Scharf added.

“24 firefighters from four different stations responded… water relay was required for tanker truck shuttle.”

Firefighters from Chatham Station #2, Wallaceburg Station #3, Tupperville Station #5 and Dresden Station #6 battled the blaze.
