A group of like-minded residents have been working behind the scenes to organize a municipal-wide event to celebrate Positivity Day, which takes place every year on Sept. 13 in other parts of the world.

“Chatham-Kent is a great place to live and we know there are many people in our community who feel this way,” said Darrin Canniff, chair of the citizen group that is organizing Positivity Day in C-K. “So we decided it is time to band together to give a united voice to the significant population of positive people who live in Chatham-Kent.”

The goal is to have the entire community celebrate positivity in whatever way they choose on Sept. 13. There are many ways this can be done, including planting a tree, holding a fundraiser for a local charitable organization, having a staff barbecue or simply showing your appreciation for someone special in your life.

“We want to take this over the top to be an event that lays the foundation for bringing about a whole new attitude of positivity in Chatham-Kent,” Canniff said.

Momentum is already building for Positivity Day in C-K.

Many workplaces, schools and individuals have already committed to being a part of an event that organizers would like to see initiate lasting, positive impacts in the community.

Businesses, organizations and individuals can expect to hear more about this event in the coming weeks, including details on a special event planned on Sept. 13 that will be a fitting culmination to the first Positivity Day in C K.

“Participation is what will make this a memorable event as well as be a springboard to maintaining positivity across our community,” Canniff said.

“That is why we will need local champions to take up this cause to organize a positivity event in their workplace, classroom or living room,” he added.
