Barricaded man arrested in Sarnia

A domestic incident in Sarnia led to charges for a 51-year-old man early Wednesday morning.

Sarnia police say on July 5, at approximately 6 p.m. officers responded to a domestic incident at a residence in the area of Talfourd Street and Lillian Street.

Due to the concern of the occupant having a firearm and refusing to come out or respond to the police the situation was treated as a barricaded person.

Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team attended and the Ontario Provincial Police Tactical Response Unit was also later called to assist.

Sarnia Police Negotiators continued throughout the night, attempting to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

Surrounding area streets were closed to ensure public safety.

This morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

A 51-year-old man is in custody for uttering threats and is facing a bail hearing this morning.

The area has since been cleared by police.
