Donald Keith Powers, a resident of Wallaceburg, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Sydenham Residence on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the age of 81.
Don is the son of the late George Melvin & Bertha Maude (Fry) Powers. Beloved husband of 60 years to Betty Irene (Branton).
Loving father of Debra Aarssen of Wallaceburg, Ross Powers (Pat) of Beaumont, Texas, Sue Elliott (Ken) and Carl Powers (Jennifer), all of Wallaceburg. Cherished grandfather of Chad Burke, Adam Burke, Amy Aarssen, Shana Iwinski, Jason McCarthy, Danielle Halliday, Sarah McCarthy, Todd Elliott, Ethan Wagner, Tyler Elliott, Alex, Eric and Joshua Powers and great grandfather of 9. Brother of the late Robert (Marion) and Burton (Clara) Powers and brother-in-law of Bea Branton (John Ellwood).
Don had retired from the Town of Wallaceburg Works Department but had worked at a number of jobs throughout his life. His real passion was working the family farm on Baseline road. In his younger years, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed many winters in Montego Bay, Jamaica, a place he thought of as his second home.
The memorial service for Don will be held at Trinity United Church, 750 Wellington Street, on Wednesday, July 20 at 2 PM. Visiting will be held in the two hours prior, from noon until 2 PM.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.
