The Wallaceburg Legion Br. 18 held their annual Christmas in July event earlier this month.
Peter Polkinghorne, one of the organizers, said the event was excellent.
“It was a perfect day weather wise,” he said.
“The local boat club, we used it as an outing to come into town. We had about five or six boats over there and we had about four boats over here. It was a great time. Everybody enjoyed themselves.”
Polkinghorne said the Legion holds the event each year sometime in the middle of July.
On the menu… beer can turkey with all the trimmings, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and cake for dessert.
“Dave Lozon and Kym Babula, they put it on every year,” he said.
“They donate their time. They organize the whole thing. He has got a big trailer type barbecue that he does them on. It is quite the look there. There was 10 of them all sitting up on the beer cans”
Polkinghorne said ‘Santa’ was even there with his elves.
“All the boats had lights,” he said. “There is a prize for the best decorated boat and for 2nd and 3rd. Everyone got some sort of prize that decorated.”
Scott Young and Judy Van Daele won for for best decorated, Polkinghorne said.
Around 100 people took part in the event.
