A Chatham man has died following a crash earlier this month between an ambulance and a van on Highway 40, outside of Wallaceburg.

On August 19, 2016 around 10:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Fire Service, and Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a two vehicle head-on collision on Highway 40 near Green Valley Line.

A northbound Ford Minivan collided with a southbound Chatham-Kent EMS Ambulance.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the minivan was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.

As a result of the collision, the male driver, Geoffrey Brereton, 60-years-old of Chatham, has succumbed to his injuries.

The OPP had incorrectly announced Brereton’s death on the day of the crash.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with the investigation.
