The Chatham-Kent Police Service recognizes the need to implement strategies to be more efficient and effective in responding to calls for services.

The CKPS has proven to be a leader in technological advances, recognizing the trend for criminal investigations in the 21st century.

The use of technology in moving forward has proven to be one of the strengths of the service and continued efforts to stay on the cutting edge will leverage this strength even further.

The addition of Citizen Online Reporting System (CORS) is yet another example of its commitment to public safety and superior customer service.

Through the use of the Citizen Online Reporting System, citizens will be provided the medium to report select crimes from the comfort of their home or on their handheld device when it is convenient for them.

Citizens will not have to wait for officers who are handling higher priority calls for service to attend to take their complaint.

The web-based software is user friendly in that the website provides ample instructions to the user to ensure that the crime for which they are reporting is eligible for Online Reporting.

Citizens will receive immediate feedback in the form of a report generated through the system.

The Citizen Online Reporting System is another Alternative Response strategy employed by the Chatham-Kent Police Service to enhance customer service to citizens.

By reducing calls for service at the frontline level, those officers will have more time for problem based policing and to engage in community issues in their assigned areas which is the foundation of community based policing.

This strategy will also allow front line officers to proactively focus on crime trends and a reduced case load will help decrease response times to matters of higher priority such as emergency calls where the well-being of persons are at risk.

The Citizen Online Reporting System eligible occurrences are those that DO NOT involve any type of suspect or obvious evidence at the scene as those types may require further details from the citizen and investigation by an assigned officer.

Each and every online report will be reviewed by a Police Officer.

Eligible ‘Online Crime Reporting’ incidents are:

– Theft Under $5,000 from Vehicle

– Theft Under $5,000 from Property

– Mischief/Damage to Property

– Mischief/Damage to Vehicle

– Lost or Stolen License Plate

– Lost or stolen property
