The Lambton-Kent-Composite School Cardinals are taking to the basketball court to help raise awareness about the disease, and to raise some funds.

On Friday, Oct. 7 the Lady Cardinal Alumni Basketball Game will be held in support of breast cancer research at LKCS.

The current senior girls’ basketball team in Dresden plays former players in an entertaining homecoming contest in the Nest at LK.

Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is ‘pay what you can.’

One hundred per cent of the proceeds go towards breast cancer research.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m

The Chatham-Kent Professional Firefighters Association (CKPFFA) and Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services (CKFES) are launching a new fundraising campaign this week ‘Care Enough to Wear Pink.’

A launch event is set to take place on Wednesday, October 5, at 10 a.m. at the Fire Station #1 Apparatus Floor, 5 Second Street, Chatham.

“Breast Cancer is the most common type of cancer among Canadian women,” Chatham-Kent Fire Department officials said.

“Through recent years better screening techniques and treatment options have become available due to research and awareness. As October approaches we honour those whose lives have been affected by breast cancer by raising awareness though donning various items in pink.”

The Canadian Cancer Society has a ton of information about the disease, check it out here.
