Wallaceburg resident and long-time newspaper veteran Jim Blake has been hired as the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s new communications officer.

“I’m excited to be able to join the Chatham-Kent municipal team and look forward to sharing our stories with the community we serve,” Blake said in a press release.

He will be joining the Chatham-Kent team starting Monday, October 17.

Blake has more than three decades of local media experience, most recently with the Chatham Voice.

A founding director of the Canadian Managing Editors’ Association and former Governor of the National Newspaper Awards, he has been honoured by several media organizations.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Blake join our team,” stated Don Shropshire, chief administrative officer.

“The communications role is vital to our transparency and sharing of information at the municipal level. His depth of experience and solid relationships in the community will help us better shape our communicating efforts.”

As a member of the community, Blake has been a chair of the United Way Campaign and has raised funds for numerous community groups and charities including the Canadian Cancer Society, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and others.

He is currently a board member of the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre and the Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Treatment Centre.
