The Chatham-Kent Police Service issued a statement today, announcing they are aware of the ‘creepy clown’ hoax circulating across social media.

“Our Youth Officer is working very diligently with local school officials to ensure the safety of all students across our community,” police officials stated.

“At this time, there have been no official ‘clown sightings’ reported to our Police Service and we’re working towards getting sites removed by the students who posted them.”

Police officials stated they would like to remind everyone that although it is not an offence to dress in this fashion, their response will be dictated by your actions (ie: uttering threats, being in possession of a weapon, mischief, cause disturbance, trespassing etc)

“We would also like to encourage all parents to ensure their child’s online behaviour is acceptable, respectful and legal,”

Const. Renee Cowell, public information officer with the Chatham-Kent Police Service, told the Sydenham Current they are not issuing details at this time about any specific incidents related to the ‘creepy clown’ hoax.
