‘Emergency Lunch Box’ program available

The kids have been back to school for over a month now. And for many parents, that often means not having quite enough in the cupboard to fill the lunch bags.

Since 1990, the May Court Club of Chatham has provided food items to area schools to assist in filling the gaps when students need a little extra to get through the day. Following the Ministry of Education Food and Beverage Policy, the club has developed a list of food items from which the schools can choose from. Each school orders food based on their monthly needs.

Currently supporting 25 schools in Chatham-Kent, the May Court club has witnessed a dramatic increase over the years in how much the schools rely on their ‘Emergency Lunch Box’ Program.

With family food budgets often stretched to the limit, the club is able to purchase and deliver a variety of snack items to the schools which can be easily doled out while filling a nutritional gap.

In addition to the Emergency Lunch Box Program, the club plays a substantial role in the breakfast program at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Chatham. The club purchases roughly half of the breakfast food items and helps serve the 60-80 students who partake of the program each school morning.

The May Court Club is a charitable service organization, serving our community for 81 years. It proudly supports these food programs in our schools.
