Another successful boating season in the books

Oh, how I love summer.

And oh, how I hate to see it go.

There are some good things about fall – I suppose.

My freezers are full of winter food – peppers, tomatoes, beans, strawberries, sweet corn and the like… will be great healthy cheap eating all winter! And most from my own garden.

The colours are beautiful this time of year… for a while.

And the usual fall activities (fairs, bazaars etc.) are in full swing.

The REALLY BAD thing about fall is having to put my boat in storage. 🙁

I’ve been lucky again having a boat. This is my fourth year. So many great days on the water, so many photos.

And the best part of it was introducing people to the wonderful waterways around here.

Seriously, seeing people’s faces as they reach for cameras and phones to take shots of muskrats, geese, swans, turtles, ducks, cormorants, terns, gulls and the scenery… it’s amazing.

Introducing people to the wonderful local waterways has been a hoot. Some are newcomers to town (2 are even thinking about buying a boat!) Others are those who live here, but have never been in the Snye, up the Sydenham to Dresden, out to Grassy, or out to Mitchell’s Bay.

I’ve said it here before, and I’ll say it again – why, oh why does our economic development office (located in Chatham, of course, not here) get on the bandwagon and start selling Wallaceburg (and the fabulous waterways) as a PRIME retirement living opportunity? Oh – did I just answer my own question? Because it’s not Chatham? Lol.

If we ever get our local hospital back to even a part of what it was, that would be a further selling point too, to attract retirees.

Don’t forget, though… not all retirees are ‘old crocks’. Many retire at 55, or even earlier – but – they would still be pleased to have LOCAL health care, especially for their futures.

Well, rant over, but… a fond farewell for winter to my little boat.

May she winter well.

Hope I do too.
