
Lakers pick up first win
The Wallaceburg Lakers picked up their first win of the season on Sunday night, beating the Petrolia Flyers 6-5.
Brayden Kettlewell picked up the game winning goal, his second tally of the night, with a powerplay goal at the 15:17 mark of the third period.
The Lakers had been down 4-1, before storming back into the game.
Justin Lindsay had 1 goal and 3 assists, while Nolan Farr and Trevor Waller each had 1 goal and 1 assist.
Josh Farrugia also scored for Wallaceburg. Matthew Brevetti had 3 assists, Josh Oberg had 2 assists, and Justin Melo added one helper.
Zach Lindley made 37 saves for the win.
Petrolia out-shot Wallaceburg 42-29.
With the win, the Lakers improved their record to 1-8-1 on the season, last in the Dobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League Western Conference.
The Lakers will host Amherstburg on Wednesday.
Kings drop two
The Dresden Junior Kings dropped two games over the weekend, losing to Mooretown at home on Friday night 3-2 in OT and to Blenheim 3-1 on the road on Sunday.
Brock Daugherty and Austin Bentley scored for the Kings on Friday, while Eric Carter scored the lone goal for Dresden on Sunday.
The Kings now have a 6-7-1 record on the season and are tied with Essex with 13 points, good for a tie for third in the Dobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League Western Conference.
Dresden will host Amherstburg on Friday night at Dresden Arena.
Two goals for DeKoning
Wallaceburg’s Alec DeKoning scored a pair of goals, as the Sarnia Legionnaires topped the Lambton Shores Predators 5-2 on Saturday in Junior ‘B’ hovkey action.
DeKoning is tops on the Sarnia squad with six goals this season, and is tied for the most points with 13 in 13 games.
200-yard game for Jonah
Wallaceburg’s Jonah Pataki had a huge game for the Queen’s Golden Gaels on Saturday.
The 4th year running back rushed for 210 yards on 35 carries. He also hauled in two passes for 13 yards.
Queen’s lost a heart-breaker, falling 42-41 to the Ottawa Gee Gees.
Despite not making the playoffs, Pataki had a career-year for the Golden Gaels.
He finished in fourth place in the OUA with 814 rushing yards in eight games.
He tied for fourth with seven rushing touchdowns and was fifth with 101.8 yards per game.
