Cardinals captures hoops crown

The Lambton-Kent Cardinals are the ‘A’ LKSSAA senior girls basketball champions.

The Dresden squad topped the Pain Court Patriotes 40-13 on Thursday to claims the title.

A stifling defense held the Pattiotes to only three filed goals the entire game.

Jade Johnston led all scorers with 13 points, while Ally Sanderson chipped in with eight points.

The Cardinals will now hit the road to face either Windsor Lajeunesse or Leamington UMEI in the SWOSSAA final on Tuesday.

The winner of that game will participate in the OFSAA championship, being held from November 24 to November 26 in Timmins.

Lakers make roster moves

The Wallaceburg Lakers made a trade with the Mooretown Flags this week, in an effort to solidify the centre position.

Wallaceburg acquired Alec Segers from the Flags, in exchange for Brett Farr.

“Alec is a 1997 born forward who at 6′ 190 lbs. has good skill and size,” Ritch Kanally, general manager for the Lakers, told the Sydenham Current.

“In 39 games last year he had 35 points. He is a welcomed addition.”

So far this season, Farr had three goals and two assists in 12 games with Wallaceburg.

“Brett was an excellent player for the Lakers and will missed, we thank him for the time he spent in Wallaceburg and wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Forward Jake Cummings was also sent to the Amherstburg Admirals and the Lakers acquired forward Garret Wojchicki from the Lambton Shores Predators.

Football championship

The undefeated Wallaceburg Tartans junior boys football team will hope to stay unbeaten and capture a championship on Saturday.

The Tartans won their semi-final game last weekend, by way of a forfeit. The McGregor Panthers failed to field a team.

Wallaceburg will host the Blenheim Bobcats at 1 p.m.

Blenheim beat LCCVI in the other 12-man ‘AA’ LKSSAA semi-final last weekend.
