Chatham-Kent could be shooting crows out of the sky in the near future.

Council discussed the topic on Monday night, after East Kent Coun. David Vandamme brought forward a notice of motion for the community to develop a plan to tackle the annual crow problem in the city of Chatham.

Vandamme wants staff to prepare a Crow Control Bylaw, with input from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Food and Rural Affairs and local hunt clubs, to eradicate the two to 20 million crows that roost within the city from November to March each year.

Reports say Mayor Randy Hope was vocal about the issue, saying it was time to shoot a bunch of them out of the sky.

A report, with background information of how Chatham-Kent has handled the situation previously, will be coming back to council on December 12.

What do you think council should do?

Residents happy with sidewalk construction in Wallaceburg

The majority of people appear to be happy with the construction work on the sidewalks in downtown Wallaceburg, however a large nuymber of people were puzzled about the timing of the project. Here are the poll results:

The downtown Wallaceburg sidewalk construction project has me feeling…

Happy – The work will enhance the downtown core once completed. 38.71% (48 votes)

Puzzled – Why would the project happen this late in the year? 35.48% (44 votes)

Not impacted – The work has not impacted me. 18.55% (23 votes)

Frustrated – The work has impacted my business and/or my plans to go downtown. 7.26% (9 votes)

Total Votes: 124

We have to mention and offer kudos to the construction workers and municipal staff for working extremely hard to ensure a large stretch of the sidewalk work was completed in time for the Wallaceburg BIA Holiday Open House.

We drove by a couple days before last week, and they were really hustling. C-K staff told us they had extra workers on the job to ensure the work was completed before the community event. We like to hear about that kind of awareness and dedication for our community.
