Tartans shine at Petrolia swim meet, Lakers lose in Mooretown

Several Tartans make SWOSSAA time at swim meet

The Wallaceburg Tartans swimming team competed in the Lancer Invitational on Friday.

Many swimmers saw personal best times and several clocked a SWOSSAA qualifying time.

Chelsey Johnson, Alyssa Wadsworth, Megan Maxim, and Tallie Laprise finished first in the 200 metre medley senior relay in a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 2:31.62. Johnson, Maxim, Laprise and Amanda Metayer also won the 200 metre freestyle relay.

Individually, Maxim won the 50 metre butterfly with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 36.97. She also finished first in the 100 metre IM, with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:29.39.

Johnson won the 100 metere backstroke event with an OFSSA qualifying time of 1:20.08. She also finished first in the 50 metre freestyle event with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 31.49.

Laprise won the 100 metre freestyle with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:12.41.

Shona Branton won the 100 metre butterfly event with a time of 1:20.88. She also won the 100 metre freestyle event with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:09.36

Tallie Laprise finished second in the 100 metre breast stroke in a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:36.34.

Kaitlyn Bechard, Paige Grealis, Lindsay Hussey and Emily Tapp finished second in the 200 metre freestyle junior relay event with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 2:34.14.

Individually, Tapp won the 50 metre backstroke with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 39.55.

Matthew Forgie won the 100 metre IM with a time of 1:47.06.

Kristopher Chauvin won the 100 metre freestyle with a SWOSSAA qualifying time of 1:09.92. Andrew Babbitt finished second in the same event with a time of 1:38.20.

The Tartan girls finished second at the meet, behind only St. Patrick’s.

The Tartan boys finished last out of five teams.

The meet was held at the Oil Heritage Community Centre in Petrolia.

The Tartans will host their next meet at WDSS on December 13 from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

That will be the last meet for WDSS before they head to Hawaii to participate in the Kalani Invitational on December 29 and December 30.

Lakers fall to Mooretown

The Wallaceburg Lakers traveled to Mooretown on Saturday to face the Flags.

It was the Flags who came out on top 4-1.

The lone Wallaceburg goal was scored by Trevor Waller.

The Lakers travel to Essex on Tuesday, before hosting Mooretown on Wednesday.
