Cause for celebration

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today is May 5th, also known as Cinco de Mayo, a day of celebration mostly observed by Americans to commemorate the victory by Mexican forces against France in the state of Puebla.

It’s actually just another day in Mexico, but for the United States, this day marks an opportunity to highlight Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas where there is significant Mexican-American populations.

The day is marked by parades, parties, mariachi music, Mexican folk dancing, and the eating of traditional foods such as tacos and mole poblano.

Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles have significant observances of Cinco de Mayo.

Celebrations are great occasions for us to be grateful.

Birthdays, retirement parties, graduations, and weddings are all events where people gather to celebrate.

The Bible talks about a particular celebration, one that happens in heaven, and this celebration happens a lot.

Luke 15:10 tells us that “there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

I had some pretty amazing birthday celebrations over the years, but I must admit that I never had any angels come to my party even once!

When the prodigal son finally returned home from his revelry and riotous living, having squandered his share of his inheritance, the father threw a party for him and spared no expense.

This is the attitude of our heavenly Father, who longs to see each one of us turn to Him and follow Him with all our heart.

It is what brings Him his greatest joy.

So what are you waiting for?

The party can’t get started until you decide to go!

Search the Lord out today and find a treasure worth far more than gold!
