The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Public Works Department is asking for public support to minimize the parking of vehicles on municipal streets, as a heavy snowfall of 10 cm is expected to start this evening and last through the night.
Rain and potentially freezing rain is forecasted to begin on Saturday morning.
“Emergency vehicles, citizens and local businesses all depend on streets and roads to be clear for passage,” Municipal officials stated in a press release.
“This action will enable snow ploughs to clear away the snow and ice as safely and efficiently as possible. Please be patient and keep a safe distance behind working snow plows and avoid passing a snow plow.”
Municipal officials said a parking ban under Chatham-Kent by-law 245-2004, section 218.02 and 218.03 has not been declared at this time.
“This may still be invoked if the snowfall is heavier than forecasted.”
