Salvation Army Christmas hampers distributed in Wallaceburg

It was a busy day on Wednesday, December 21, at the former Sobey’s grocery store in Wallaceburg.

Staff and volunteers with the Salvation Army were at the site distributing Christmas hampers to those in need in the community.

“Hamper distribution in Wallaceburg went well,” Captain Stephanie Watkinson told the Sydenham Current.

“We were able to meet the shortfall on toys in time to hand them out today.”

Watkinson said overall across Chatham-Kent, the Salvation Army is at about 77% of their goal or $350,000 of $450,000.

“Hoping to raise the remainder by Christmas,” Watkinson said.

She said the kettles will be out until 2 p.m. on December 24.

She said volunteers are still needed and anyone interested can call 519-627-8257.

“Thanks to our many volunteers who have made this possible,” Watkinson said.

“From standing by kettles to packing and distributing hampers, we can’t do this without the support of the community.”
