Chatham-Kent physician receives Schulich Excellence in Distributed Education Award

A Chatham-Kent physician is being recognized for her contributions to medical education after receiving a provincial honour celebrating leadership in training future health-care professionals.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and the Thamesview Family Health Team are celebrating local physician Dr. Jacqueline Wolting, who has received the Schulich Excellence in Distributed Education Award from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The annual Awards of Excellence recognize individuals who demonstrate leadership, curiosity and a commitment to improving community health, research and patient care through medical education.

Dr. Wolting, a family physician who also provides obstetrical care at CKHA, was recognized for her work supporting distributed medical education, which places medical learners in community settings outside of university campuses to provide hands-on clinical experience.

“Dr. Wolting stands out as an exceptional educator whose leadership, teaching excellence, and unwavering commitment to learners exemplify the very spirit of this award,” said Dr. Lindsey Sutherland of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. “Dr. Wolting’s contributions to service and education have significantly strengthened the distributed education experience in Chatham-Kent and across our region.”

Dr. Wolting said working with medical learners has been a rewarding extension of her practice.

“Welcoming medical learners into the Chatham-Kent community not only enriches their education but also strengthens local health care services as a whole,” said Dr. Wolting. “I am constantly inspired by the curiosity and dedication of my medical students and residents. I am also proud to work alongside many of them who have remained in Chatham-Kent after completing their training here. This achievement is a reflection of the incredible collaborative support from my colleagues at Schulich, CKHA, and the Thamesview Family Health Team (including my patients!), who make this vital work possible every day.”

The award highlights the role of community-based training in strengthening local health-care systems and exposing learners to a full range of care, from primary care to hospital-based services.

“Dr. Wolting’s achievement is a true testament to the high caliber of medical leadership we have right here in Chatham-Kent,” said Dr. Zeke Milkovic. “Her commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and providing top-tier medical mentorship ensures that Chatham-Kent remains a premier destination for training. It is this dedication to education that ultimately helps us attract and retain the talented new physicians our community relies upon.”

The recognition underscores the interconnected nature of the local health system and its role in training future physicians while supporting ongoing patient care in the region.
