An amazing service is available in the community once again this year, to ensure everyone gets home safe this holiday season.

Home James is a unique program dedicated against drinking and driving.

It is a non-judgmental volunteer driving service provided during the Christmas holiday season to all drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own insured vehicle back home.

How does it work?

You’ve gone to a house party or your office Christmas party or just out to the bar for a drink and it’s time to go home, but you do not feel comfortable driving.

Hours of operation 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. (4 a.m. on Dec 31).

Home James asks that if people need a ride outside the City of Chatham, or you need a ride to the City of Chatham that you call at least 3/4 hours before their closing time. You can not reserve a pickup time and Home James operates on a first call first serve basis.

Due to insurance restrictions Home James can only pick up and drop off clients within the county of Chatham-Kent.

Call their headquarters at 519-351-3353 and a team of two or three will come and drive you home safely in your own car.

One or two (if there is room) people will get in your car with you and the third person will follow behind.

Your car will be parked in your driveway and you will be escorted to your door.

They will even drive your babysitter home, as long as one parent comes with them.

This is a confidential service provided by many volunteers whose main concern is the safety of the roads.

100% of any donations received goes to local Chatham-Kent youth groups.

To protect the safety of our volunteers it may be necessary to reduce or stop our service during inclement weather.

Volunteers needed

Volunteer opportunities are available for road volunteers, dispatch, phone operators, headquarters, committee members, and mascot. For information call 519-351-3353 or visit this link.

The remaining dates foe Home James includes December 23, 24 and December 31.

A group of Christmas carolers dropped by to visit the Sydenham Current crew on Thursday night, and treated us to a beautiful rendition of Jingle Bell Rock.

Our dog Millie even joined in on the fun, and managed to keep a Santa Claus hat on for about five seconds.

Thanks for brightening our day by stopping by.
