Chatham-Kent’s 2017 New Year’s baby was welcomed into the world on Sunday afternoon, January 1.

Weighing 7 lbs. 5 oz., Winter Gray Malott was born at 3:27 p.m. at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance to the proud parents of Jessica and Codie Malott.

“It seems like it’s a first for everything,” Jessica told the Sydenham Current.

“She’s my first baby and the first one of the new year.”

“She’s sleeping good, she’s actually the picture perfect baby. I couldn’t of asked for better.”

Winter was due on January 7, but decided to come a bit early.

“My husband Cody actually didn’t want a December baby,” Jessica said.

“He did want a baby in the new year, maybe not necessarily on New Year’s Day. I guess he got his wish because as soon as I woke up in the morning, my water broke and I said ‘I guess we’re going to the hospital’.”

Jessica said they made it into the CKHA at about 11:30 a.m.

“It wasn’t too long, but God was it painful,” Jessica said.

The new family will be staying in the hospital for about three days, after Jessica underwent a c-section.

“Everything went good and smoothly, she came out as adorable as ever. So they’ll keep us here for three days and let us rest up.”

Jessica is originally from Thamesville, Cody is from Kent Bridge and they currently live in Chatham.
