A Thamesville body shop is looking for a new owner.

Greenwood Auto Body is up for sale, as the long-time owner of the business is looking to retire.

“I built this shop in 1993,” Dan Greenwood told the Sydenham Current.

Greenwood said he has been doing automotive repairs for 46 years, after previously working at a smaller shop on Zone Road #1, before moving to its current location at 23588 Industrial Road, just before you head into Thamesville from Dresden.

“We had a six bay shop down there. It was very successful. It worked very well. It was a minimal size but it was very productive. We moved here in hopes that the exposure would bring us more business, which it has over the years,” Greenwood said.

The current state of the economy has been making it tough on business, Greenwood added.

“People only repair what they have to,” he said.

“They don’t go out of their way to repair things that are non-essential repairs. We do mechanical repairs like brakes, tires and exhaust as well as full body work services here.”

Greenwood added: “The shop is set up to be a high production shop. It is just that the volume has fallen off so much and at this particular point, if you are not affiliated with a franchise or dealership, it is very difficult to get insurance work.”

Greenwood said over the years he has tried to stay away from going corporate, but it has probably cost him money.

“For 40 something years we have maintained that loyalty to customers, treat customers the way you want to be treated is probably our best sales approach,” he said, adding that taxes and high hydro rates have also caused challenges.

A few people have gone through to look at the shop since it has been on the market, Greenwood said.

Call the shop at 519-692-4804 for more details about the sale.
