The investigation is on-going in Mitchell’s Bay, after a fire Thursday night in the North Kent community.
Fire officials say crews responded to a structure fire inside an external garage at 11 Bayview Street at 9:40 p.m.
“When they arrived on scene they were met by a fully engulfed two storey structure that was risking spread to a number of houses and two large propane tanks,” fire officials stated in a press release.
“High winds were driving the fire and risking surrounding structures including homes and garages. Station 5 Tupperville was immediately dispatched to provide assistance. In temperatures as low as -10, with the significant wind blowing from the bay, the crews surrounded the structure with firefighting lines and prevented the fire from spreading to other homes and keeping the propane tanks cooled whilst the fire was extinguished.”
Fire officials say approximately $150,000 damage was caused as a result, while $750,000 worth of property was saved.
The cause of the blaze has been ruled accidental, although the investigation is continuing,
