The Water Wells First group will be holding their annual general meeting at Country View Golf Course tonight (January 11) at 7 p.m.

“If you live inside or within 5km of the North Kent Wind Farm, please come out to find out more information about questions and concerns raised over the mailing out of the well survey by AECOM,” the group posted on their website.

“Please find out more information and the position taken by Water Wells First to this rushed and unreasonable timing of this survey by the developer, who was able to do this requirement of the REA Permit since June 29, 2016. Is North-Kent really committed to ensuring our water supply or are they more interested in rushing construction and profits?”

Kevin Jakubec, spokesperson for the group, told the Sydenham Current last summer that he is concerned that the pile driving of local wind farm foundations is causing vibration damage to the wells.

Jakubec launched an appeal and consequently an Environmental Review Tribunal was set to take place in the fall.

However, a settlement was reached before the Tribunal got underway.

Chatham-Kent officials said a “compelling multi-disciplinary report” by Golder Associates led to the cancellation of the tribunal and the withdrawal of the appeal .

“Based on the analysis and conclusions presented in this report we can conclude to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty that the construction and operation of the turbines at the planned setback distances will not cause harm to ground water quality either at the wells or in the broader subsurface groundwater environment as alleged in the notice of appeal,” the ‘Golder Associates report’ states.

Despite the report from Golder, the Water Wells First group continues to investigate the situation.

Earlier this week, reports say thick black sludge and sediments were found in the pressure tank of Laurier Cartier’s water well system in Dover Township, near Mitchell’s Bay.

Apparently, Cartier’s $6,000 water filter system is so plugged it no longer works. The systems is only about five years old.

Cartier says his well provided good clean water up until the wind turbines were installed in the area a few years ago.

“We are very grateful to the “Pretty in Pink” group for all the hard work and dedication they put into all of their events. This donation will help us continue to offer our residents and their families the best care possible,” stated Jodi Maroney, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation Executive Director.

This donation is part of the $250,000 total raised during Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation’s Fall Fundraising Campaign. In the first eight months of operations, Chatham-Kent Hospice has served over 150 families in our community.
