From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
It’s easy to get caught up with success and failure, especially if you’re feeling the pressure from any New Year’s resolutions you may have made.
Winston Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
After two weeks of working on your fresh start for 2017 you may be either flying high or singing the blues.
Here’s what you need to do, regardless of which scenario you find yourself in at this point: keep going!
Many years ago I knew of a family whose young daughter was exceptionally talented at playing the piano.
My wife and I had been invited to a recital where Laurie was performing.
Sadly, just a couple of weeks before the scheduled event, this girl broke one of her hands.
That meant that all the pieces she had learned and practiced could not be played.
However, instead of cancelling the recital and disappointing her family and friends Laurie devoted herself to hours a day of practicing a special, lengthy piece that could be done with one hand.
This piece was entirely new to her and had many tricky transitions in it, even for someone who would have had months of practice.
Her commitment to keep going in spite of her accident paid off.
She played the piece flawlessly and most people in the audience were completely unaware that she had even been injured.
Perseverance won the day!
Whatever it is you’re struggling with right now, keep going.
Pray and ask the Lord to give you the determination to carry on without quitting.
Whether victorious or vanquished, your best days may still be ahead.
