The ‘Golden Rule’ can lead to a gold mine

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

In a conversation I had recently with my mom about where to get good pizza in Windsor, she recounted to me a story about a great idea one local pizza pie maven had.

Last June this man advertised that he would reward every student who had straight Aā€™s with a free slice of pizza and a pop at his place of business.

As it turned out, a whole bunch of proficient students took him up on the offer.

That wasnā€™t all.

He experienced a profound surge in business right after this generous offer, no doubt from the parents of many of these same students.

Sure, this man was a savvy businessman.

Yes, but he was also aware of the ‘Golden Rule’, as described in Matthew 7:12: ā€œTherefore, however you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.ā€

You could also see a connection with Galatians 6:7: ā€œDo not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.ā€

Nobody forced this guy to offer free pizza.

This was not a requirement for him to stay in business.

He simply wanted to reward the hard work of students in his area.

It is amazing what can happen if we are willing to take some initiative and sow into the lives of others.

Thinking of others and how we can be a blessing to them will always reap good results, whether immediately or at some point in the future.

You reap what you sow.

You have another week ahead of you, and with it, plenty of opportunities to be a blessing to someone.

Ask God to open your eyes to some of these opportunities and then take some action.

Youā€™ll never know what good can come of it until you take that first step.
