Update: 4,000 pigs die in $3M blaze

An estimated 4,000 pigs have died after a barn fire in Lambton County.

Lambton OPP officials say on Tuesday January 31, just before 9 a.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Plympton-Wyoming Fire Department and Lambton County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was dispatched to an address in the 5600 block of Confederation Line in Plympton-Wyoming regarding a structure fire.

Upon arrival, police observed a large livestock barn already completed engulfed by fire.

At the time of the fire, the barn contained approximately 4,000 pigs which were lost in the fire.

Several neighbouring fire departments were requested to attend and provide mutual aid in fighting the blaze.

Confederation Line between Stewardson Road and Wanstead Road was closed for approximately five hours while emergency services were on scene.

The Plympton-Wyoming Fire Department are presently still on scene and will remain on scene for several more hours.

Police say nothing suspicious has been revealed at this time in the investigation and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

No injuries were reported and the total loss is estimated at $3 million dollars.
