With some help from around the world, the community of Wallaceburg stepped up to the plate to make Hayden Foulon’s 5th birthday extra special.

“Thank you everybody… you rock,” the local girl said in a video posted to her Go Team Hayden – #goteamhayden Facebook page.

Hayden, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, headed to Toronto on March 2, her 5th birthday, to begin preparations for a stem cell transplant.

She has been in remission since the end of January and there is currently no cancer cells left in her body.

The transplant itself is scheduled for March 13.

Wallaceburg’s Krystal Gyuricza has been leading the charge to gather birthday cards and gifts for Hayden.

Krystal said she got the idea after reading an article in the Sydenham Current about youngsters Emma VanRuymbeke and Sophia Burgess, two Port Lambton girls who donated their own birthday gifts to Hayden around Christmas time.

“I have been overwhelmed by all the texts and comments customers made today saying ‘hey, you’re the lady that took Hayden her cards’,” Krystal said.

“We received cards from all over the world literally. Much love to you all. Thanks to whoever sent cards and donated money and gifts. You have made my heart happy.”

Krystal said needed to thank many local business, people and groups for helping, including: her sister Amanda, Basso’s No Frills, Instant Print in Wallaceburg, Sandra and the McDonald’s crew in Wallaceburg, Heather Blake and the K of P, the Sydenham Current, the Wallaceburg Courier Press, Canada Post and 99.1 CKXS.

Krystal said she figures that approximately 1,600 cards and gifts were gathered during the initiative.
