Samsung and Pattern Development officials say preliminary foundation work is starting now in preparation of the start of full construction activities beginning later this spring.

“Preliminary work includes limited piling activity at two turbine locations,” North Kent Wind officials say.

“In response to concerns raised by the community, vibration monitoring will take place during this preliminary work in accordance with a vibration monitoring plan required by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) and outlined in the Renewable Energy Approval for the project. Based on the preliminary monitoring results, full construction of the project will begin pending MOECC approval.”

North Kent Wind officials say they have been advised by scientific experts. retained during the application for the Renewable Energy Approval and the subsequent appeal. that there are no reasons to believe that vibrations will influence groundwater.

“While groundwater impacts are not anticipated, North Kent Wind and the MOECC have considered the issue of groundwater quality in wells in the area, groundwater monitoring requirements were established, and water well testing was completed at all locations where residents confirmed participation,” North Kent Wind officials stated.

Approximately 200 skilled workers will be employed on-site at the peak of construction activity and create approximately 10 permanent jobs once operational, North Kent Wind officials say.

Full construction of the project is expected to begin in late April or early May, and the project is expected to reach completion at the end of 2017 or early 2018.
