Rome wasn’t built in a day… do what you can

Do you ever feel frustrated because there is so much you would like to do, but you just seem so limited?

Perhaps you desire to help others, but you have limited finances so you cannot do as much as you like.

Maybe you began this week with a whole list of stuff to get done, but you only got through half of your tasks.

John Wooden was a legendary college basketball coach at UCLA, whose men’s teams won 10 NCAA championships and set numerous records.

Wooden invested in the lives of his young athletes and helped them achieve extraordinary levels of greatness.

He once said, “Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”

I have heard so many people over the years tell me what great exploits they would accomplish if they won the lottery.

Hey, why not start with the $1 that is in your pocket today, instead of sitting idly by, waiting for your ship to come in?

Back in 2006 a young, single mom in our community got tired of being broke and lonely and decided to do something about it.

She knew there were others with needs, as well, so she came up with a plan, asked a few people to help her, and launched a free meal through her church.

That first effort netted only four visitors, easily outnumbered by the 9 other people who helped her that day.

But, she persevered and today that meal attracts 100 or more people every month, and has helped to spawn a number of other community meals.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Be patient with the little things you are doing now, because down the road there will be results to show for it… IF you don’t give up!

Galatians 6:9 says: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
