The Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee is $1,000 closer to their goal, thanks to AarKel Tool And Die.

“It was something that was on our radar from the beginning,” said Cezar Soares, a member of the charitable donation committee at AarKel.

“When we first met, we went through a list of local groups that were looking for money and that was one of the ones that was brought up right away. It is something that is going to be a good thing for the community to have and it is nice to have AarKel to support things like that.”

Brad Brooks, another member of the donation committee, said the group was thrilled to support the project.

“We get together multiple times throughout the year and discuss local charities and fundraisers that we can support, with AarKel’s money,” he said.

Chris Young, the chair of the Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee said the $1,000 boost from AarKel ets their fundraising total up to approximately $130,000.

“We are at our final push to raise $50,000,” he said.

“So every $1, every $100, $500 or whatever people can help with. The community has been awesome. We have had a wonderful response from the community. Aarkel, this is great. I know they are involved with the community with a lot of different charitable givings so to add us to the list is quite a compliment. Our project truly appreciates it.”

Young said the goal is to have the splash pad operational this summer.

“Originally July 1st, but that day has kind of got pushed back, but it will happen this summer,” he said.

“If you are over by the park you will see there is some new playground equipment going in right now, which is the Municipality of Chatham-Kent putting in all new barrier free access playground equipment. So everyone in the community will be able to use it. It will tie in really nicely with the splash pad too when it all comes together.”

Young added: “We will be digging soon.”

The Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee is also holding a trivia night coming up on Saturday, April 1.

Cost is $25 per person, and you need to have a team of eight people, for a total cost of $200 to participate.

The event will be held at the CBD Club in Wallaceburg and the doors open at 8 p.m.
