During the month of April, 2017, members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice unit entered into an investigation where quantities of drugs were being trafficked from a residence in the 800 block of Exmouth Street in the City of Sarnia.

Police officials say on April 6, 2017, at approximately 7:50 pm, Vice Officers, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Branch, COPPS Unit, and General Patrol officers, were able to execute a search warrant at the residence in question.

Upon entry five individuals were located within the residence along with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Secondary to the search officers seized:

1) Over 6 ounces of crystal methamphetamine with an approximate street value of over $17,000

2) Over 115 grams of cocaine with an approximate street value of $11,500

3) 6 grams of heroin with an approximate street value of $2,400

4) Quantities of hydromorphone and oxycondone pills with an approximate street value of $1,600

5) Over 2,300 grams of marihuana with an approximate street value $23,000

6) Officers also seized over $11,000 in cash

The total value of drugs and money seized was over $68,000.

During the search officers located a set of brass knuckles, which are considered a prohibited weapon in Canada.

All five suspects were arrested and charged with drug trafficking, among other charges.

All five were taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

With seizures such as this, officers have to take extra precautions due to the fact that across our nation police are finding that heroin, along with other drugs, is being laced with powdered fentanyl which makes the substance even deadlier then it already is.

This requires our officers to wear protective equipment such as masks, gloves, and protective suits when handling these drugs to avoid contamination.

Earlier in the week, Members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit, as part of an ongoing investigation, executed a search warrant for drugs at an address in the 700 block of Devine Street, in the City of Sarnia.

Officers from the Vice Unit, along with officers from General Patrol and the Criminal Investigations Branch, made entry into the residence at approximately 8:50 pm on April 5, 2017.

Upon entry four individuals were located in the residence and taken into custody. Three females, 35, 45, and 47 years of age, were charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, namely crystal methamphetamine and hydromorphone. The three females were released on a promise to appear. The 35 year old female is from Point Edward while the other two are from Sarnia.

A 29 old male, from Inwood, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and also faces charges for two counts of breaching his recognizance. This male was held for a bail hearing.

Officers noted that a number of sharps containers were located along with other needles being discarded throughout the residence.

This is a significant safety issue for officers when entering a residence such as this.

Police are even more so concerned due to the fact that often times these needles are discard into the immediate neighbourhood and become a risk to all if an individual is poked by a needle.

Police ask people not to touch any found syringes but instead contact the police and we will discard them for you.

The police are also reminding the public that if they observe an increase in foot traffic to a specific residence, with people coming and going throughout the day and night, they can contact Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers with the information.

The information will then be forwarded to police and if possible be used as part of an investigation.
