Video surveillance in Wallaceburg helped police identify an alleged thief on Thursday.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say in 2015, a man was sentenced to a two-year probation period where he was to keep the peace and be of good behavior.

In March 2017, just before 6 a.m. the same man allegedly walked onto a property within a subdivision in Wallaceburg that was not his own.

He then apparently entered and rummaged through the vehicle parked within the drive-way of this property and took a Walmart gift card, valued at $50.

He then entered a second vehicle within the same drive-way and stole money.

Due to a number of thefts occurring within that subdivision, a video surveillance camera had been installed.

The video surveillance captured the entire incident and police were called.

The officer was able to identify the man as he is well known to police.

A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest as he could not be located at that time.

Yesterday, at around 3:30 p.m. the man was observed in Chatham by police.

He was stopped and arrested.

A 27-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and failing to comply.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
