The Chatham-Kent Police Service laid a pair of drinking and driving-related charges on Sunday.

Police officials say on Sunday April 16, around 12 p.m., police received a traffic complaint after the driver of a pickup truck was observed drinking a beer.

Officers quickly located the vehicle on Richmond Street and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed several open containers of alcohol scattered throughout the vehicle.

As a result, a roadside test was administered.

The driver subsequently failed the test and was arrested for driving with over 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

The male was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters for further test, which allegedly revealed more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The 53-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and was released with a future court date.

In a separate incident, on Sunday morning at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers were conducting a R.I.D.E program on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

Police officials say a 30-year old Chatham woman drove her motor vehicle to the checkpoint, and after speaking to officers, it was believed that this woman’s ability to driver her motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

After allegedly refusing a breath demand, the woman was arrested for Fail to Provide Sample and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters.

The woman held until sober and released with a future court date.
